Perfect Bound Books

Perfect binding is the process of applying glue to the spine of the text and adhering the cover. This is the traditional binding of most paperback books and gives you a sturdy book that will last. Saddle Stitch Books

For saddle stitched books, we take signatures (one sheet with at least 4 pages printed on it), nest them inside of each other and staple the spine to hold the pages together. For this reason, books must be divisible by 4 for the book to be created. This process is much less labor intensive, making it more cost effective in most situations. Saddle stitching is traditionally and is used for magazines or smaller books where the pages are limited to around 64 pages to hold its strength.

Coil & Wire-O Loop Bound Books

Coil books make use of a metal or plastic coil that is inserted into holes drilled into a book. The size of the coil varies depending on the size of the book. Wire-O loop books make use of a "c" shaped coil that is bent to make a circle around the spine. Coil and wire bound books have the most accessibility to the full page, being able to fold the pages back onto itself without damaging the spine.

When designing a Coil or Wire-O loop book make sure to give at least 3/8" margin on the inside to account for the drilled holes.

Fastback Binding

Fastback binding involves gluing the spine of the book, then add a canvas strip to hold all the pages together. This binding gives your book a strong spine, holding up to 50 lbs.
